Default !998 Explorer 400

Hey OPT, my brother's old Explorer has started making the dreaded noise of the clutch hitting the cover; it only does it when turning to the right and when under breaking. I haven't had a chance to look at it yet and I was hoping you could point me in the right direction and save me some trouble shooting time. Thanks in advance.......

First off replace the old cover, new style is stronger and won't warp and sink down as bad as the original OR you can to to retro fit the even newer style cover(never tried myself) that is even larger,PLUS check for a broken motor mount as it sounds like the motor is shifting in turns. I replaced a bunch of covers, some you couldn't tell from the outside, others were almost melted. If he doesn't want to spring for a cover, you can try to brace the old one to try to quiet it down. They just formed the older covers too close in size to the front clutch and heat just caused the problem for the most part. #5433542 newer replacement cover. They usually only make noise at idle and slow turns when the clutch is extended out,off idle they usually are quiet when they go inwards. OPT

Thanks OPT, it's still got the original cover on it; I'll see if I can talk him into spring for a new one.
