You shouldn't disconnect the battery with it running because it can blow all the light bulbs. But IMO that shouldn't stop it from running.

DON'T disconnect a battery while running! It can not only blow out bulbs, but can cause damage to sensitive electrical components along with the new ecm you installed!! This ignition isn't like the old "magneto triggered" only system of years past to where they could be cranked with a dead battery! And even that system manuals warns about disconnecting a battery on a running machine! check the voltage while it is running to see if it is even charging. it should be at least 13.5 or better. as others have mentioned these newer bikes can destroy the eletronics w/ it running and no battery.

to see if it still runs with the new ecm, but it didn't. the only thing the new ecm corrected was the fan, which wouldn't start at all, now it does.
