what is the flipping trick tp these polaris carbs
#1
I have a 1993 250 Trail boss that I bought for my son.
The carb was dripping gas out the bottom of the bowl. So I took the carb apart and soaked it in parts cleaner for a few days, took all the jets, and cleaned them with a torch cleaner.
I bought an OEM needle valve, set the float lever to level with the carb upside down.
Now when I go to start it, it will only fire if I have the throttle all the way open, and gas is blowing out the intake, I took it apart again, and adjusted the float lever to just above level with the carb upside down. Still the same thing. I have the air screw set to 1 ½ turns out, and no idea what to do now.
Any help would be great.
Thanks

Was it running before you took the carb apart? If not, check the compression. Must have a minimum of 115 psi (preferably more) for it to crank and run right. Has it been sitting up with fuel valve left on? If so then could have a crank seal problem also due to gas in the crank case distorting the seals?. Plus you can't have more than 1/8" slack at the thumb throttle or the etc switch contact points in the throttle housing can touch, retarding spark. OPT

I bought it with low spark. I came home and put a CDI in it and it fired right up,but ran a little rough and had a steady drip out the bottom of the carb. The carb was a bit gummy in side, but now honestly looks brand new.
Compression is between 105 and 110 psi, i know a little low, but not that bad. the throttle has less that 1/8 slop in it. I looked at the spark again and it has great spark, nice bright and steady.
Based in how easy it fired when i brought it home i really feel this issue is in the carb.
The only other thing I worked on since bringing it home was the kill switch, start, light high low, overdive assembly. I ended up winding one from a 1996 And put it in, but again i dont see that being the issue either.

105 compression is not good! Probably one of the reasons it won't take the fuel properly. It has to have good compression(new bore should be around 140-145 psi or more) You're just leaning the fuel out when you turn the valve off and it starts sucking more air than fuel and starts to run right. Even with this low compression you still could have carb problems or even crank seals could be leaking. All three things have to be right for this engine to run properly. OPT

Well i got it to fire up and idle real nice, after idling for about 2 or three minutes it died, i was hoping to get it to warm up and check compression again and see if it went up or down. when the machine died i checked and no spark.
I took the mag cover off and there were come metal pieces busted up near the starter i guess im starting compleatly over.
I have a spare motor with only 90 psi compression. guess im boring that and starting all over.....
I always said not to buy a polaris, and since i bought 2 in the last 3 months, and problems with both i should have listened to my own advise.
I have an 85 honda that wont die, and my sleds are yamaha and are bullet proof.

You can get a bad one no matter what make.I've seen em drag all brands into the shop over the years from every maker. 2 strokes by their very design are a more maintenance machine than any 4 stroke made.Pistons and rods aren't constantly bathed in oil like 4 strokes are,but if treated properly can last years before top end or other work is needed. Sorry for the problems you've had on this one,but if you do rebuild the other engine as you say,it should last for years as I've seen them do in the past. OPT

I know whay your saying about having a bad one every now and then, but i also have a 350 that i gave up on and took to the dealer to fix, and he is scratching his head as well. Even he says that Polaris is the least quality machine he sells.
I Had a Polaris jet ski complete POS, and was smart enough to get rid of it fast.
this machine is a POS.
I just dont need the BS that polaris pieces of junk porovide. Honestly going to put this thing together and get rid of it an buy something worth owning. Probibly a Yamaha... I know ill pay a little more but like they say yo get what you pay for.
Honestly....Thanks for giving your advise.... i understand your just tying to help
