Default info on a 400 xplorer

I just picked up a winter project, was told it was a 97 or newer. Where can I locate the model number to look up what I have for sure?
Thanks for any help.

17 digit vin # is located on the left lower frame behind the a-arm.It's either there OR etched on the down tube frame on the right hand side.(Can't remember the change over year model to the 17 digit #. The OLDER model Polaris atvs had the # on the right frame down tube) Either way the number can be entered here to get all detailed info on the machine if you wish.http://www.purepolaris.com/en-us/Ran...earch-VIN.aspx PLUS look on the engine recoil cover itself. Hopefully still has the engine number sticker still on it also. The first two numbers are the year model. OPT
