Hey guys so on my 400ex it sometimes will turn over just fine and start up but other times it would only go "click" from the solenoid. I got the battery tested and its at 12.6v and that was after sitting for 2 days. so I checked ground wire which was a little frayed so I bypassed it with a jumper cable and no difference. I tried using the screwdriver on the solenoid method and it did nothing also. So I popped that cover off where the gears are that come from the starter and took out the gear so the starter shaft had no resistance. tried it and it would only turn about 1/4 rotation everytime I pressed the starter button. But sometimes it would spin fast like normal then go back to not turning. Anyone have anyideas what it would be? I was thinking the starter brushes are stuck or something.

 

yes your correct sounds like starter brushes are sticking or worn out..

 

yup ditch the starter for a new one.....
