Default 2009 Yamaha Wolverine 350 Carb Issues

Hi all! I am new to ATV connection and was hoping to get some advice with a problem I am having with my wife's Yamaha. It was sitting for about 2 years. Yes it had gas in it. I originally tried to start it and it ran like junk. back fired, popped, wouldn't stay running, etc... I pulled the carb and took it apart. the inside was green and nasty. I bought a rebuild kit and thoroughly cleaned what I was not replacing with carb cleaner. While waiting for the parts I drained the tank. (gas was very cloudy) I then filled it half way two or three times and shook it to try and clean it out. The last time the gas looked good when I drained it so I figured it was good. I rebuilt the carb and reassembled everything and the thing ran better than when it was new. Started right up and purred like a kitten. I kept checking it for a few days and same results. Now it sat for about 3 weeks and I went out to start all my quads and it will not stay running again. Starts with the choke on but when I shut choke off it dies. Did I do something wrong or miss something? I can get it moving and it seems to run ok but as soon as I let off the gas it dies and I have to use choke to start it again. What could have happened in three weeks???? Any help is appreciated!

Probably need to clean it one more time. Sounds like another little piece of trash is stopping up your pilot jet. Make sure you remove the jets and clean them out good.

Thanks! Do you suggest a different way of cleaning the gas tank? Should I put an inline fuel filter? Thanks for the help

I don't know of any other way to clean the tank. A fuel filter would probably be good until all the gunk breaks away from the tank. You can get fuel filters for lawnmowers at advance auto parts for like $.99. Next time if you let it sit up for 2 years, drain the tank and the carb lol!

Did you remove the jets and clean them out?

Try some Seafoam in the tank? It will help remove junked up carbon deposits.

Raptor-I took the jets out, sprayed them, poked a strand of wire through each hole, etc...

Nukacola-I had the tank off, petcock out cleaned the whole thing. Nothing in there
