Default New CDI 03 Polaris 700 Sportsman

So after reading several posts on this forum (thank you very much!!), I purchased a news CDI after I stopped getting spark. Now with the new CDI, it starts and stays running as long as the key is in the 'start' position. Once I let it go back to 'run' it dies. The new CDI (from rmstator) does not seem to use the three wire connector and I'm not sure if that's the issue. I looked at a wiring diagram and it seems to go to the stator, but the instructions... Not very good for a novice like me... Does have it connecting anywhere, nor is there anywhere to connect it. So, I'm kind of lost in the sauce right now and would appreciate any help! Thank you!!

If you didn't replace this system with the updated Kokusan ignition kit,you didn't read enough of the posts on this problem. Don't spend any more $ on the Ducati ignition system. Even if the cdi happened to work the stator will go out and it changes to the #2202602 kit. Check Cycle Parts Warehouse,Cheap Cycle Parts, etc on the best price. About $450 on the complete kit. Here's the pdf instructions on the kit.http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...,d.b2I&cad=rja

I did not purchase another Ducati... Per this board. I purchased an 'upgrade' here: Stator + CDI upgrade kit Polaris Sportsman 600 / 700 2002-2006

I did not replace the stator, just the CDI. There were only 5 lines of instruction... Not very helpful. I wish I had gotten something like you posted!

I don't understand why it will stay running as long as I keep the key turned all the way to where the starter is turning????

First I've noticed on this from RM Stators. Looks like they bypass part of the stator(uses the charging system wiring for the ignition) and change the ignition from ac to dc which is good if it works. If you can't trace the problem to the ignition switch or wiring with the RM kit,I'd send it back since it says it has a warranty. As far as ignition systems the Kokusan (although higher priced) is one of the best around. Not only used on the later 600 and 700,but used on several KTM models we sold and hardly ever had an ignition failure. I just don't trust any kit that takes short cuts and doesn't have a complete stator replacement along with the cdi and coil..
