Hello everyone, this is kinda a two part post. I am new to this forum and wanna just take a line to introduce myself. My name is Rhys, Im 32 and Im from Ky. Okay now that outta the way, onto the real reason for you reading this post.

Ive had several quads in the past, growing up. However those were all for the most part sport quads. Now that Im older, bigger, and have a better half, I am in the market for a 4x4 for the wife and I. I am certainly on a budget of around $3000-$3500 USD. Obviously this will be a used quad and Im cool with that, I just wanna get some opinions from those that's been riding lately.

The type of riding we plan to do is general trail riding, there will be no large hill climbs, and I will want to get it muddy. Not looking to float across a river, or submerge it in, just your general mud, maybe just deep enough to almost cover the tires. The wife will be with me a lot so I want something strong enough to pull us both, combined weight for the both of us is around 350lbs.

Im not brand particular, I just want something with a good track record of reliability.

You should get a 2-up that's made for riding double. The 3 that I know of are Arctic Cat, Can-Am, and Polaris. Polaris is generally good. Can-am is good but expensive. AC I don't know anything about.

 

Check out Craigslist for local 4x4's, you can always come across good deals on that website.

 

Thanks guys, I have been all over craigslist and other fairly local trade/sell sites in my area. I guess what I meant to say in that big drawn out first post was, other than 4x4 ( cause Im dead set on that option ) what quads would best suit the type of riding I wanna do and be okay with the weight ( roughly 350lbs ) of my wife and I combined? Like what size would be good? Are the 400's too small?

 

Power wise 350lbs is nothing even for a 250. What you after is Chassis size for seating room. There are 3 sizes , small, Mid and Full.
Small chassis are 250-300 in general.
Mid chassis are 350-450.
Full chassis is 500 and up.

There are exceptions like a 450 Grizzly ,420 Rancher are mid Chassis ATVs yet a 400 Arctic Cat,450 Foreman and 450 King Quad are full chassis ATVs,even though their in the same displacement class.

Here's a good example a 450KQ has the same large physical size as a 750KQ 2007 Suzuki KingQuadŽ 450 4x4 Camo ATVs.
Yet a 450 Grizzly is much smaller then a 550/700 Grizzly.2003 Yamaha Kodiak 450 Automatic 4x4 ATVs

Now that I know a 400 and up would be plenty of power for what Im looking for, I can look at comfort for us both. Dead on reply for what I was looking for. Thanks again!
