Default 2005 Polaris sportsman 700 efi

hey old polaris tech. my brother is having issues with his atv.

he just purchased this atv and it Has a check engine light on.. he was able to get the codes 41 and 46 from it. not sure what that means though. As well the atv had a chip on it which he removed thinking that it was the reason for the codes.

But it was running good so he went out for a ride and after about 10 min he could hear a hissing sound from the fuel tank so he opened it and it sprayed fuel out into his face . then it wouldn't fire back up?? he waited an hour or so then went to try it again and it started but did the same thing. do you know what would cause this?

as well when he is reversing there is some sort of clunking clicking noise happening.. but its gone when going forward.

also when starting to take off it a guy has to rev it up quite a bit before it engages and start moving would this be a belt possibly or maybe the clutch is wore.

thanks

The "sticky" post on efi harness wring problems will probably help on the codes.Codes 41 air temp,46 barometric pressure sensor(tbap) Usually it's the tbap wiring that causes problems. Plus the sticky shows where to get the harness repair kits as most of the time it's not a sensor problem, just the cheap harness wiring and connector.Only The Best Also sounds like pressure is building up in the fuel tank. Check that the tank vent is open, plus make sure the insulated sheathing under the tank is in good shape. If the fuel gets too hot from the exhaust there's been some report of gas actually bubbling from the heat.Plus you can't beat a free manual to help you sort out problems.http://gh-ftp.com/ORV%20Manuals/Pola...I%20-%20SM.pdf
