Sometimes when I shift my SP500 into reverse the override is automatically kicked in. The reverse light doesn't come on. The 4wd won't work either. Sometimes when I shift it into reverse it is normal. Could it not be shifting all the way into reverse? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It happened to my 96X400. It is the switch that runs from the gear shift to the circuit board. I let the dealer fix that one. part was about $75 canadian.

The Polaris service manual (not the bogus owners manual) will tell you that is a symptom of improper shift linkage adjustment, and that’s what it sounds like to me. The way to find out is to adjust your shift linkage to the proper specs, or have a competent mechanic do it. If you still have the problem after that I’d say you have a weak / intermittent reverse switch.

Most likely it isn't quite kicking all the way into reverse. Make sure the shifter linkage is adjusted properly. If that seems all OK, it could be the reverse/neutral sensor on the tranny housing.

You might try getting into your wiring harness and bypassing the override switch to test it. It's easy to do and easy to remove(the bypass you use). Just look at a wiring diagram. This will help isolate the problem. HTH
