Default Scrambler 500 Should I Buy

(Note: I am not selling or advertising an atv. Only asking for advice)
Hi I'm texting a guy i found on CL about an atv. 2001 scrambler 500 for 1500$. He says the tires have 50 to 70% tread and that everything works except for two things.
  • The petcock is leaking but he says he has a new one. I don't know how to change one, so any help on that would be helpful also.
  • It's not engaging unless they charge the battery, so he says it might need a new battery.
Would the battery need to be changed? And would i be able to DIY the petcock or would I have to bring it to a dealer? The atv has been up for sale for about a month. Also, does this sound like a good deal altogether? I will make sure to ride it before I buy and give a once over.
Thanks, a speedy response would be greatly appreciated as I am going to go look at it in the next week or so.

Best if tank is empty to where you can pull it off. Just unbolt the tank after you get the plastic off, pull back on the plastic lever that tuns the valve to get it out of the way, then remove the bolts from the valve. OR you can even do this with the atv sitting on it's rear end and work underneath. Have a safety support strap on the bars.Dirt Cheap Yamaha & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse Whether it's worth what he's asking is the condition of the machine more than it's age. Why would this post be "monitored"? This person is simply asking for advice. He didn't use profanity or call your momma a name, I see no problem here. But in reality, your best bet is to have someone go with you when you decide to look at the atv that is much more knowlegable to help you decide whether its worth buying or not. If you're not sure about something, its better to ask for help than to learn the hard way that you made a bad purchase.

Default My Decision

I have decided to go to a dealer up in hyde park ny. Teixera's Polaris. Let me know if you know anything about them. A friend bought an 800 rzr from them 2 years ago so I am going to bring him back with me. He knows a bit more about them than me so I'll have him come along. i have decided I will probably abandon the one I talked about above and just go to the dealer. It is fully serviced, a cooler color IMO, and has that extra dealer credability. It is a 2005 scrambler 500 so I think it would be better than the other one because it is newer and needs no maintence. We will also probably buy a helmet or two while we are up there.
Thanks
(also, does anyone know how to change a username, and greg74 I have worked it out with Stendori, thanks for your concern.)

"Not" that I need to explain, but I will. when a post is reported by anyone, we have a duty to check it out and take action if need be. this subject is now closed!
