Honda Rancher 2006 aoto shifting not working
#1
My 2006 rancher 400 has never auto shifted properly since it was purchased new. I have changed the angle sensor and the shifter motor and still it will not downshift unless you come to a complete stop, any ideas?

Is this in ESP or Auto mode, or both? You may have a problem with the ECU, this should have been sorted under warranty 9 years ago. A batch of faulty ECUs was sent out in about 2004 and there was a recall. It was before I started working on Quads so I don't know the details, but we had some of the ECUs that were removed from working bikes "on the shelf" so if someone had ECU problems after the warranty ran out, we could fit one of these, and hope that it wouldn't go wrong. A cheaper fix than a new ECU.

It does seem like the ECU then as the speed sensor(s) must be working for it to change up. I guess it could be a wiring fault between ECU and shift motor but then you probably wouldn't be able to down shift at all. A job for the dealership I think, as they have the diagnostic tools. If it does need one, a new ECU is going to be expensive though.
