Default Weird Idle Yamaha 1999 Beartracker

Hey Everyone,

I recently acquired a non-running bear-tracker. After determining I had sufficient Spark and Compression, I found the engine to run off of fuel poured in the cylinder.
I cleaned the Carb and during dis-assembly found a broken boot from intake to carb.

I cleaned the carb out ( had a lot of varnish).. And fixed the intake with a hose and 2 hose clamps.

The quad runs! Strange thing is that after warm and idling, touching the throttle will make it rev and stick to 2000 rpm around. when you shake the bike it will knock back down to normal idle. The cable doesn't seem to be sticking and im unsure what in the carb could promote this.

Any body else encounter this problem? A lead in the right direction would be helpful, I appreciate everyone reading this post!!
THANK YOU~!

I have had throttle butterfly shafts stick, oddly enough, more on EFI throttles than carbs. If it has a butterfly throttle carb, you can check fairly easily, as the throttle lever on the carb will not be sat against the adjustable stop when the fault is on. Just noticed you "fixed" the leaking intake with hose, if it is still leaking you will get a high idle.

after you rev it and the idle sticks, does it start smoking? the choke plunger on the carb is probably all varnished up and sticky. you can rebuild those carbs for about 50 bucks or so. the kits are all over ebay. you will have to get the floats too as they dont come with the kit. why? who knows.
