Default 88 LT50 engine swap

Im dropping off my sons what i believe is a 2002 lta50 off at brennys our local suzuki dealer. im sure his engine is tired so im considering an engine replacement. I could have them freshen up the 50cc. But i was curious if the lt80 would work as a replacement? as hes growing it wouldnt hurt to bump up a few ponies. Im sure they may know this but I like to know details so that I know im getting the correct service.

Recondition the 50cc engine, they are quite fast enough. The LT50 had a restrictor which could be removed to produce more power, I think it was on the end of the exhaust. I don't know if the LTA50 has one. The exhaust port gets plugged with carbon on this engine so may produce a lot more power after a de-coke. If the child is big enough for an LT80, trade the 50 in for one. The LTA50 is about the most sought after 50, far better than the LTZ50, so holds it's value, and is worth about the same as an LT80.

Thank you for the info. I dropped it off this morning. I was poking around at a new atv and possibly trading this one in. But after reading this I will keep and and buy a new one. my youngest is about ready to ride soon so ill keep it aside for him. Ive read good and bad about the new polaris, kawi, kymco. This lta50 has been a solid bike since I bought it used 4 years ago.

FYI: the LT80 motor won't work in the LT50.
Stay away from the Z90.
How about a nice Apex or DRR. These are the nicest machines on the market.

I will investigate those. I have a 15 year old that has a 125cc china 3 speed, a 10 year old girl 90cc china auto, and a 7 year old with the 50cc lta50. My 3 year old will start on the 50cc this winter and i will upgrade the other 3to new atv's and lose the china atv's.
