Polaris 325 magnum choke cable re route bogging
#1
Whats up everyone. Another problem here, hopefully a quick fix. I had my 2000 325 magnum running nice, until I took the choke cable out of the screw hole.
Back story: Last year I replaced my dads broken choke cable on his identical polaris (just the switch part by cutting along the edge, but I pulled the cable out from underneath to do this). It didn't run right and bogged after putting the cable on. I decided to see where my cable was routed to try and put his in the same routing. I then pulled my cable out of the housing (between the handle bars, unscrewed the plastic nut). I got his routed just like mine and adjusted it. It made a difference and his ran better.
Long story short we traveled a long ways to ride these things and mine does not run like it used to. It bogs just like his did. Runs good until the throttle gets about 1/3 then bogs. Are these cable that finicky? I tried adjusting it, holding it at different angles and it still bogs. Right before I took the cable out mine was revving nice. Could it be something else that just happened at the same time?
The quads had been sitting for the winter, put a little sea foam in last tank before winter storage and ran a while after (We did this last year at about the same time I replaced his cable end). It seemed after the sea foam mine ran a little worse too but seemed to clear up. Could sea foam all of a sudden make it run bad? The only thing I did was undo the cable, I didn't un route it I just pulled it out of the housing to see how it was routed. Didn't put any more sea foam in just topped the tank off with premium fuel. Its running real rich and at times spits fuel in the large overflow tube going into the frame. The spark plug is black too. It also sounds different, almost like air coming from around the engine. The engine gets way hotter too (probably because it has to work so hard).
I'm not a pro with these things so any help would be great. thanks

If fuel is flowing out the over flow tube then you have a needle and seat sticking or float level is off. Seafoam or a lot of other products can't clean all the gunk buildup in carbs once this happens. This you have to do manually. Just pull the carb and install a carb kit, blow out all orrifices and be done with the carb.Polaris Magnum / Trail Boss 325 2000 2001 2002 Carb / Carburetor Rebuild Kit | eBay As far as the choke cable make sure you have a little slack on the choke and the engine rpms don't change when you turn the bars side to side. The adjuster is right at the carb. Just loosen the lock nut and screw the adjuster in or out to where the choke lever/**** has a little play. This cheap manual can help too.http://polaris-atv.brssm.com/2002-Po...ce-Manual.html

On the choke cable, no matter how I adjust the adjuster (in the middle of the cable covered with a rubber boot) I can't get any slack. So at the carb itself I should loosen the choke cable there? And then adjust where the rubber boot is? thanks
Edit: I screwed it in all the way at the carb and in the middle of the cable and there is no play unless I straighten the cable out. When the cable is routed it has no play.

If you have the correct cable you should be able to get slack at the lever even if the adjuster is screwed all the way down. If it doesn't I'd recheck your cable routing.

Had some health problems so never actually got the quads to run right. I'm trying now, is there a certain way the choke cable needs to be routed? These were running great until the choke cables were messed with, right after re routing the cables and installing a new one these both ran worse bogging at mid throttle etc. One of them had a broken choke lever so I replaced the whole cable, it ran worse afterwards so I took my other choke cable off the other 325 where the lever attaches to see how it was routed. When I put it back on it ran worse. So it seems to me these choke cables need to be routed perfectly. Any advice on routing these properly? thanks
