Just bought an 03 honda rancher 350 es all time 4x4. Put a new carb on and it fired right up for maybe 10 seconds then died and wouldnt start. Found a blown ignition fuse. Looked for shorts, couldnt find any. Only blows after starting(starter or pull rope). But will start and run with battery unhooked. Thats where i get lost lol. Help would be much appreciated.

 

Seems a lot like a CDI problem, but will be difficult to trace in order to check for sure. I would first find out what voltage the regulator is putting into the battery if possible, anything over 15v is going to mess the system up. Connecting a high current ammeter across the ignition fuse socket, then disconnecting things like the CDI, dashboard plug and LH switch box plug, may indicate where the high current drain is coming from.
