2000 magnum 500 rocker switch install?
#1
Hi, so I'm new to working on quads. I have a 00 magnum 500. I'm trying to install a winch rocker switch and need to find a keyed hot wire to splice the switch to. I have been at this all afternoon/evening looking at wiring diagrams and videos, ECT. I'm learning as I go but this one has really stumped me. I am also working outside in the snow and cold at night with a flash light in my lovely northern MN. So what I've found so far is the wires coming down from the key ignition. On the back of the ignition harness are the letters A B C D with 8 wires. 2 red, 2 black, 2 brown, 2 red/black stripe. I think I've narrowed it down to one of the red or red/black wires. I know there are circuit testers to find the hot wire and I do have a multimeter. I don't want to go hacking in to each wire to find the right one unless I really have to. Also it's really really cold outside so any quick solutions would be awesome.

Red/white wires are only powered up with the ignition on.You can splice in to one of these and tie the ground to the coil mount where most of the grounds terminate. Usually there's one red/white wire hanging loose on the main harness under the front panel or inside the loom itself. There's at least one as these free that are used for installing after market equipment.
