Superwinch Rocker Switch

Here's the work around i used. went to the local electronics store and picked up a toggle style switch instead of the button. Works the same way, just looks different. It automatically flips to the off position like the orginal too. The problem here is the switch would only handle a 20amp load wich is not eneough for the winch so i also bought a 40 amp relay to wire inline with the switch. It handles the load and the switch just does the switching. $13 dollars well spent. the big plus is this setup is much smaller than that huge rocker switch. Any questions just let me know.

I burned up two of those switches. My solution was to use the rotary switch available for the Superwinch. It's not as neat and compact as the rocker so I mounted it on the back of the front rack where I could easily reach it to lift/lower my plow. No problems with with it at all. By the way, all Superwinch switches shunt (short) the motor in the OFF position. This provides dynamic braking for the winch. Without dynamic braking the winch will creep under load. This fact may or may not be of importance in your application.

Was 40 amp the biggest relay you could find? According to the winch manual it can draw over 90 amps at a full load. I am curious as to how you wired it all together. Did you use a single pole or double pole momentary on switch? I can't figure out how you did it with only one relay(unless it was a double pole double throw relay which I didn't know they made).
I too am very fed up with the rocker switch, it gets dirty too easy. The relay idea sounds good though.
