2005 Honda Rancher AT question about auto shift mode
#1
Question regarding the automatic transmission mode not working on 05 rancher 400. It had the selectable automatic mode or the electronic shift mode. Auto mode doesn't work but electronic shift does?? I've done some research and some guys say it is the angle sensor but none of them confirmed whether or not it fixed the issue. I'm going to look at this quad tomorrow to buy. Was just hoping someone could shed some light on what else it could be that I could look at or check while I'm there. I'd hate to throw expensive electrical sensors at it for nothing. He said sometimes auto will work for a second then it will stop and esp will blink and he will have to shut it off to go back into esp Thanks for the help

so he just left the "reverse sensor" unplugged and rode it.
I asked him if he checked for codes and he hasn't, he didn't seem to know that you could. It's only 10 min away from me so it can't hurt to go look at it. If it's beat I'll walk. I haven't owned a honda quad in quite a while. I know a good amount about polaris sportsman but I know nothing to look for in the Honda's. Problem areas.

If you leave a sensor unplugged, the computer recognises it as a fault, throws a fault code up, and usually stops working until you switch off and switch back on again. Check what the fault code is, probably so many long, then so many short flashes, repeated.
