My kid is buying a new ride this week. He is limited to $3800 out the door. He is leaning towards the Polaris Trailblazer, but would consider the Honda 250EX or the Yamaha Blaster. He wants something a little sportier than the AC's (kids). If anyone has any experience in rating which would be the best one for him I would appreciate the help. He is 6'tall and weighs 160#. He has rode my AC 500 and 300 a bunch. He will ride a variety of terrain from desert tracks to mountains, mud, snow and some hunting where a rack will be a needed. I know a AC would be a better ride for the mud and crud, but it is his money and he is limited to the $3800. Any others I am overlooking for the money would be appreciated as well. Thanks

i think i would try and find a good used not beaten, wolverine. sporty, quick, 4wd(no low range), probably won't outgrow it for a while and he can do some mods as he sees fit.

I would have to agree with badhabits, try to find a used wolverine or scrambler 4x4. But if he does want somthing new out of the ones you said. The blaster is a nice quad pretty much bullet proof A little on the small size for your son's size though, and it doesnt have the much GC. The 250ex i dont really no anything about, well i never seen one first hand. I think I would go with the trailblazer. But I would just have you son take a ride on each and see wich is most comfy to drive for him

I will have to agree with badhabits and girthyguy. My son loves his blaster but If I had to do it again I would have bought the wolverine. It seems I am always having to push him out in the snow and mud. The wolverine is sporty and light and can handle jumps and stuff. Sounds like the wolverine would fit your son perfect.

Bahnerman,
There are only a couple of other quads that are in that price range. The Kawasaki lakota, or Mojave. The other one is the Polaris Trail Boss.
The Lakota and Mojave are 250cc liquid cooled four stroke motors. They are nice and very reliable. Although they may be a little crampy for your 6' son.
The other one is the Polaris Trail Boss. It is also a 325cc four stroke. It is fairly sporty but also comes standard with a rear rack and a front one can be added. It is very roomy and will be more confortable riding for your son. You did mention the trail blazer which is a 250cc two stroke. Both are good bikes but the trail Boss will probably fit the bill a little better.
The Wolverine would be another good choice but it may be hard to find one in your price range. If you can then it is a good sporty utility type machine.
For as tall as your son is I would probaly stay away from the blaster. It is only a 200cc machine really made for smaller riders.
Another good choice would be a used Yamaha Warrior. Good trail manners, 350cc four stroke, can add a rack, very sporty and a good overall machine.
From Honda you can look at the 300EX, 250EX, These are great machines They are all sport oriented like the warrior, Mojave, and Lakota.

With all the elevation changes in Utah You would probably better getting a four stroke. They are less tempramental when wanting to ride from the desert floors up into the mountains when hunting. Unless you are willing to spend the ten minutes rejetting once you get up to camp.

Anyway good luck.

I was up north this weekend and I saw that they are selling the AC 400 4x4 for like $3899, which might be a good thing for him but that does not include the tax, lic.
Thanks

I would recomend the Trail Blazer. It's gonna fit his size alot better than the others you mentioned, is cheap and easy to mod, can do very good with some tires in mud if he has alittle skill in the riding department, and is cheap.

I would recomend changing the front tires ASAP to a stiffer side wall Holeshoot or Bandit because the stock titians are realy soft and grippy making it will 2 wheel very easy on cement. Way to easy for my likings.

Was that $3899 for a new AC 400 4x4? That seems alful cheap for a machine that lists for about $5500.

Yes thats was it it was 3899. I was looking at a trading times at a gas station in mora last sunday before we went for a ride up in the snake river area. Im most sure it was the price for the 4x4. I just got my AC 500 Shift 2 weeks ago and I paid 5475.44 out the door. That is a good deal I thought for a 2001. Plus it was very close to my home, so I didnt have to drive across the world to get it at such a good cost. Hope this helps
Thanks
