05 sportsman 700

Just got my first atv and it’s an 05 sportsman 700. Took it out and it read full on fuel gauge. Rode for about 3 hours now it’s on E. Is this normal. I wasn’t riding to hard just taking it easy.

While riding did the fuel level (fuel bars on speedo pod) slowly go down during the ride or literally it showed full bars the entire ride then all of a sudden showed no bars?
if you feel your fuel level is not being reported accurately check the sending unit.

Just because the gauge said it was full when you started it doesn't mean it was actually full. You have to look in the tank to be sure. If you don't know how far you rode and how much gas you used, I can't say if it was normal or not when it hit E. And when it hits E that doesn't necessarily mean you're close to empty, but if the gauge and speedometer start blinking then you just hit reserve.

I don't know about the 700 but some other Sportsman ATVs can go over 100 miles on a tank. I imagine your mileage would be nearly the same as the other twins.
The longest ride I've ever been on was an epic day-long butt-numbing 123 miles that I'll never do again. Several different ATVs got close to the same mileage as my 500, but the biggest engine in the group was a Grizzly 660. We were just about running on fumes by the time we got back to the parking lot. I heard the 700 wasn't great on gas mileage but I would still expect to get 100 miles on a tank until I'm told otherwise. Good luck. Let us know how it turns out.
