Works Shocks on DS, swapped springs even better.
#1
The works steelers were night and day, way better than stock. But never one to leave well enough alone, I thought they could be even softer, for this is very rough country out here.
So I talked to Sandy at Shoc Connection. We talked about removing spacers first, maybe changing some springs. Then I looked at my stock shocks, now basically spare parts. The works, triple stack springs were white and blue, color clash crisis. I knew I would have to paint them,,
once I had it dialed in. The stock shocks had beautiful matching yellow springs, and in the larger diameter wind.
Well I had to take them apart and compare spring rates, lengths etc. didn't I?? And Shock
Treatment!! Well, The Works shocks have nitrogen pressurized charge, fair amount of compression dampening, and decent rebound dampening. All in all a very reasonable recreational shock.
The Stock DS shock is a RYDE FX Arvin # 706 200 081 00W33. This shock is a piece of $$it! It has no positive nitrogen charge, it has reasonable compression dampening and totally excessive rebound dampening!
What must have been happening is the excessive rebound dampening must have "packed up" the front suspension as repeated hits compressed the front end faster than it could rebound, keeping the front end in higher spring rates and not allowing the front end to recover from these hits, sending the shock wave through to the handlebars thereby kicking my a$$.
But, the cool original springs fit the works shock with the addition of one of the smaller white springs. It looks way better, it rides even smoother. The spring length is identical to the Works, triple stack. The rate of the main blue works steeler spring was actually a little higher than the stock spring. So now I have the best spring combo with the better shock, way better shock. I am getting to like this DS a lot. And Nobody, but Nobody wants these old shocks.

Hey 3TV, when you get a chance, check out your front shocks for the make, model, and part #. Post it so we can all see what the GOOD shock is.
I am thinking of whining to the dealer, saying they must be defective or something. I'll stick with the works shocks, but maybe I could use them elsewhere.
Hey that was some fun over in Yamaha land eh?
Can you believe Vitoblaster? So he basically tries to pick a fight but never responds? Those young bucks make fine soldiers, marching to the corporate drum. Thanks for coming to my aid.
I think the Bombardier Forum is developing nicely. There is a good attitude over here. Almost as cool as the AC guys, who can be almost too cool, as there is no speed in their equation.

Calling me a nobody fourlix, I was the one that contacted you about buying the shocks from you. But being that you are useing them I guess you no longer are considering selling them.
I think I'll just buy me a set of 27" 589s instead.

Sorry Boner, But you don't want these. With nothing outstanding but way too much rebound dampening, these shocks only FEEL like you could jump off the Empire State Building. And I've cannabalized the springs anyway. Now if you still want them, without springs, you can have them REAL cheap. I got a pair of stock upper A-arms that can go real cheap too.

Well I can get stock springs for like 16 bucks each, but they are no use if they are not the right lenght. IF you could tell me how tall the stock springs are on your DS I could figure out if I could use them. And with the threaded preload that your stock shocks are I can always adjust them to make stockers fit.
I'll e-mail you and see what kinda price we are talking about.
