Polaris Sportsman 700 belt slapping cover?? Help
#1
I have an ‘05 sportsman 700 efi thats having belt issues. It started when i was using it in low range, i was on it pretty hard til i came to a stop and it started creeping at idle, like the belt was trying to engage, kind of made a slight knocking noise too. It was also very hard to change gears. I cut the machine off, cranked it up again and the creeping/knocking went away and it rode fine the rest of the day. Then recently the belt started making a bad slapping noise, sounds like its slapping the clutch cover. Doesn’t do it at idle, only when throttle is applied, louder when it’s in gear and throttle is applied. I’m thinking it’s either a bad primary clutch or belt??? What do you guys think??

chances are the belt is damaged. take cover off as mentioned and replace the belt and blow out all the belt dust and clean the clutches and hope your one way bushing that works the ebs in the primary clutch isn't going bad. that is usually what makes the bike creep as you described.
