Default My 1999 quad runner 500 overheats and won't go into neutral

Hello everyone! Brand new here. I have a 1999 quad runner 500. It has a habit of overheating and then refusing to go into neutral once it does that. I had the carburetor rebuilt 2 years ago and haven't been able to drive it as much as I'd like to do to the restrictions in my area. Any ideas why this might be doing it? I'd like to add that I'm fairly new to this whole ATV thing And really want to get better at it. Any guidance would be greatly accepted.

Afraid I haven't had any experience of the 500 quad runner but the fan should kick in when the engine gets warm, to prevent overheating. The Vinson was a close cousin, and the auto version would get the gear rods, in the gate under the gearstick, out of line, leading to it getting stuck in gear.
