'01 Mojave: Anybody else have their carb blow off?
#1
I was starting my quad after riding to a gas station and it backfired and blew the carb out of the intake manifold. I loosened up the clamp, removed it, and fit the carb back on. The clamp was a real pain to slip back into place since it kept catching on a bracket.
This is the second quad I've had this experience with. The other time was on a '96 Wolverine way back in the middle of nowhere. I assume the backfires are caused by the lean stock jetting. Anybody know what jets I need to richen it up?

Wow, thats never happened on mine (a '91). I've never noticed a backfire through the carb either. My Mojave was quite rich out of the factory (still is, never changed anything), I'm at about 130' above sea level in Yuma AZ.

Now thats something that seems to happen pretty frequently with mine, flooding. When I stand it up on the grab bar to work on it, it takes forever to start it back up. When I stand it up gas also leaks out somewhere on the engine, I cant trace it back but it almost looks like it comes out of the kick lever, any ideas on that one?

I have never had that problem, even with a jet kit. Mine is a little more easy to flood since I took the pipe off and went back to the stock pipe, but there must be lots of fuel laying in your cylinder to blow the boot off. madweazl, fuel will run out at that angle. It will come out the overflow. Any carb will do that, they're just not designed to hold the fuel at that 90* angle. Just turn your gas off and run it out before you work on it.
