dirtbike fork question, all who have one please read
#1
Tommorrow I will be going to look at a 1997 cr 125. He said the thing is in beutiful condition, but needs new fork seals. Are these expensive? Are they hard to install. Anyway, he said he bought the bike because he had a friend who amature freestyled and he wanted to try. He said he did pretty good but he found out it wasnt for him. Do you think the fact that this bike has had some "big air" under it would make it not a very good bike anymore. Also, if the forks are shot, how much is it for nice after market shocks (front only, or front and back)
Thanks guys
Derek
Oh, do you think it is worth $1700 if it is a descent looking bike?
Thanks guys

thats seems like a good deal
im pretty sure that is the year before the Aluminum frame and you dont want the first generation Al frames anyway.
I think you can get for seals installed and everything fo easily under 150 buck
i think the seal are like 40 buck
What are all your opinions on dirtbikes?
I cant decide between a quad and bike. In CA we dont really have quad mx or in my area at least and 250rs are very expensive because i live near so many dunes.
I like to ride real agressive and if i got a quad I would go tcs or elkas shocks and all new suspension and chassis part.
I like the simplicity of going and buying a cr and just riding it how it is.
WHat do you like and dislike about quad and bikes??
thanks

I absolutely love my 400ex, but im starting to outgrow it. I had a kdx200 before my fourwheeler, but i wrecked real bad and broke my shoulder so i sold it for the 400ex. After about a year, the fourwheeler seems mellow, and i was contemplating either putting a 440 kit in it, or just selling it. I believe i will be selling it, buying a dirtbike, and buying a utility fourwheeler. That way in the summer i can ride the bike, and in the winter i can push snow, and do some mudding with it. Overall, i think it will be a good choice for me. I dont really know what you should do, maybe just think about it real long and hard and the answer will come. Thanks alot for your reply.
Also, does anyone know how expensive like a pro-action suspension would be, and do those bolt on like my works shocks did on the quad?
Thanks
Derek

I gotta say, I've crashed more times on my CR then I can remember. Lots of broken levers but that's it. On my X it's another story. I had a nice expensive $1,000 flip last spring. On the track I love quads because they are so much harder to jump and correct in the air. I've had a few guys that ride bikes come and talk to me in the pits askin me about riding quads. They were impressed. In the woods though you just plain and simple can't beat a bike. They are so narrow and you can blast through the woods. If you've got a wide enough trail my X will beat quite a few bikes but 9 times out of 10 a bike is perfect for the woods. I guess this is why I have the best of both worlds. The CR is goin up for sale though pretty soon. If I buy another bike it'll be a 250 or a 4 stroke. Those 125's go through top ends way too fast.

Fork seals are easy. The coolest thing about bike shocks are that you can totally rebuild them yourself. The steel frame should be alright, but I think Honda made some 97's with aluminum. If yours is aluminum, don't worry. The steel frame might have cracks if he's gotten HUGE air for 3 years, but I doubt it's hurt. Shocks are pretty expensive; new ones that is. Pro-Action suspension redid the CR80 shocks for $200 5 years ago, and I haven't gotten mine done since. $1,700 sounds really good. The 98 CR was $2,500 when I found it. Made in 98, sat in the dealership until 2000, the guy rode it twice, then sold it. Great bike, butt-load of power. I would definately buy it!
