Great. I did have a recall on the two Ranchers I own. They shifted fine but I took them both in during the off season just after Christmas to have a stiffer shift plate installed. I guess there were some folks having problems, but mine have been trouble free.
I have over 1500mi on my 00 4x4 and just over 1000mi. on the 01 2x4. Love that Shihting system and the full floor boards too!!! My riding buddies call my ES Ranchers "Girl Bikes" ,My reply after 10 miles in tight trails is "How does Girl Dust taste!!" I leave my 400 at home unless we are doing sand.

Have a 01 Rubicon and a 02 Rancher ES 4x4. Rancher ES spells fun. Only problems I have ever heard of is they don't want to shift in sub freezing temperatures. The cure, let the machine warm up for ten minutes before going when it's that cold.

In Canada, we have sub-zero tempetures all the times, and I dont know of anybody having problems with the Electric Shift.

I bought the manual shift because i was afraid of the electric shif giving problems....you guys are disappointing me!!!.....seriously though, apart from the earlier versions which were under recall, none of my buddies who have the ES have any problems....had i known they would be as reliable as they are, i think i MIGHT have gone that way.

Just in case you were refering to the trans in the Rubicon, I have almost 1600 miles and 180 hours on mine and have had zero problems. Its a great transmission. It is the greatest transmission for decending steep hills. Very steep loaded with over 400 lbs, 3 mph.

Very happy

Bought my first Rancher in 2000 with esp. Then I bought a Yamaha big bear because my Honda dealer was out of Ranchers. Just bought a new Foreman es. Getting ready to sell the Yamaha to get a new Rancher esp for the wife. Never had a problem with the shifter. I probably have 3500 miles on the Rancher.
