prairie 650 vs. bayou 250
#1
Ok... its not realy a comparison. But I have had my 650 prairie for a while now and absolutely love the machine. Last weekend I purchased a bayou 250 for my wife and son. I was surprised where this little thing can go and it was fun as hell to ride. The 650 with its massive engine just plows through any obstacle the little 250 has a little different approach...with a little finesse it went most places the big bores went. Many people were surprised this little 250 was on the same trails as the larger machines...anyway I guess my point is that we tend to overlook the fun these smaller machines offer. The 250 bayou was a riot!

I to have similar experence with my wifes 250 Ozark it Kind of hops over obtacles that my 650 has to climb over. The smaller ones are nice but I wouldn't trade the big boy for nothing!!!

I agree, the most bang for the buck is on the 250 class quads. Small enough for bigger kids but plenty big enough for adults too. The "challenge" thing is a great experience. You truly feel like you are part of the quad on a 250 class, not just a driver. The big boys are fun too, but I love the 250 boys the best.

Don't have a Beartracker/Timberwolf but I have ridden them. It's about equal to the Bayou 220 in my opinion. The Ozark and Recon are the best of the bunch but the Bayou is a great value. I'm gonna pump up the Bayou a little bit with filter, pipe, jets and upgrade the rims to aluminum with slightly larger tires {22-11-10 off a Lakota} just to see how it will do against the others. I already upgraded the front shocks and it made a big difference in the handling and jumping ability of the Bayou.
Anyone can plunk down their money for a kick-butt quad and that's cool by me, but I just can't resist the challenge of making something humble in origin {like a Bayou 220} do more than most folks think it can. Just the hot-rodder in me coming out! Glad to see other people appreciate the less flashy quads and their capabilities.

ATV's were very popular and capable long before the "big bores." That's because they've always been fun.

I have a bayou 220. I frequently ride with a buddy who has a couple of 400 class machines. I have no problem keeping up with them on trails, but he blows me away on open terrain.
what mods can I do to give the quad a bit more oomph!
I love my 220 and probably will never get rid of it, my som has a smaller suzuki (LT160) and that has about the same pep as the 220.
thanks
