Well the "break in" point is very important unless you want it to "break down".I have a 2002 Lakota Sport also(bought on DEC of 2001),I think i broke it in correctly being my first quad and all.Kawasaki gave me 6 months warranty,so i had fun with it (with no mods) for that time being. After the warranty expired i started looking for aftermarket parts,i found www.rockymountainatv.com.They have plenty stuff for the "lakota" so i ordered the "free" magazine and went from there on.So far ive bought for my quad is SuperTrapp I.D.S2 exhaust with header pipe,K&N jet kit/air filter,13T sprocket, and the DuraBlue Eliminator 2+2 axle. All my aftermarket add ons have been mostly from www.rockymountainatv.com,I still have future mods for my Lakota in the process.Hope this has helped you in any way possible, and take care of the "little blue mule".

lakotasportrider said it all. Just change the oil and set the valves per maintenance schedule for atleast the first two times. The filter will collect some metal and goop from assembly and the valves get out of toulerence for the first couple times.
Good luck with her and enjoy.

depends on how bad they are. But you will run a chance of burning a valve if they are tight. Or cup the valves if loose.
