I have a '98 Warrior that runs great as long as you don't adjust the idle up to where it will idle. As soon as you do turn up the idle and gas it, it won't idle back down. It acts like it has an air leak, but I can't find anything. On the other hand, it also sounds like it's starving for gas. I have reset the needle valve all the way up and it didn't affect it at all. When I bought the thing, I got it cheap because he couldn't figure out what was wrong. I have worked on bikes for years and thought I would have no problem. Suffice to say ,I am stumped as is our local dealer's mechanics. They say that they can figure it out,but I don't really want to pay for a " Troubleshooting" bill. I don't know exactly what was done to it before I got it other than it had a Cobra muffler and a K&N air filter. I have replaced both with factory pieces. I have also bought a new pilot jet just in case it had been damaged. No luck there either. The only thing I haven't tried that was suggested is to make sure the intake valve isn't too tight. If anyone can give me some insight,it would be appreciated.

Have you taken off the side cover on the carb and checked the linkage? My Wolverine has a similar carb, and I had that problem, turned out to be rust and crud on the pivot points where the throttle cable hooked up. Another thing to check is the nut on spring that runs the arm for the accelerator pump.If the guy who had it before was messing with it,and got it too tight or bound up, the linkage hangs up, and the idle won't got back to normal. Just a few things to look over before the dealer charges you millions of dollars in head scratching fees.

I agree with 95wolv. The return spring for the butterfly valve in the carb gets weak when its rusted.

If thats not it, do check the valves, I had both problems at one time or another and both times it wouldnt idle down.
