Here's What the Dealer Told me About the New Honda.

I was at the dealer yesterday, when I asked about Honda making a new sport Quad heres the reply; "I was at the Honda show when they showed a slide of the 400ex they said that they will not be building a new sport quad. Because the 400ex outsold all of Yamaha's ATV line combined". This Dealer is the largest Honda Dealer in Nebraska, so his word is Solid. So because you still buy the 400ex they feel no need update it. So being loyal to Honda gets you nothing. Yamaha will be coming out with their own 450 sport quad in 2004. So check that out. I wish Honda would make another Sport Quad.

Dealers asked questions after the show about a sportquad and the only response was no response.
"We know that the sportquad category is a growing one"
[Same thing they have said for the last 3 years.]
No one said anything to the extent that they were resting on the 400EX.

Knowsalot, thats what he told me. Did Honda tell you that the Honda 400ex outsold all of the Yamaha ATV line? I believe this man Completely. I was not there. However, this man is very "Stand Up" and I believe what he said.

They should be outselling everything else since I've seen them priced from 4699.00 to 4999.00 at numerous places. But I only paid 5099.00 for my Z400. 100.00 difference for a faster quad with reverse and liquid cooling and still has the great handling of the EX. No brainer. I do like the EX and I will probably buy a used one for my son to start racing on before I move him up to a Cannondale but I just can't see buying a new one with all of the new offerings out there.

Hold on Honda Fans!
I have good word from a pipe builder who has done some prototype pipes for a new sport Honda ATV.
Think a longer 400ex with a CRF450 donk in it. The 450 is been modified to suit ATV application (read more bottom end here).
If every one stopped buying the 400ex, then Honda would have to bring up development, and release the new bike this year, not 12 months from now!
Keep a look out for it - ask your dealers who probally won't know about it until Feb!

Ok, so take a look at almost any QUAD dealer (whether Honda/Yami/Suzi/Kawi) and make note of whats out front: USED 400EX's.
EVERYONE is trading in their 400EX's for the latest and greatest sport quad that will KICK THE 400 EX's A$$. Honda doesn't realize this yet. Yes, the 400EX is still selling well, but in the next year or so, its sales WILL rapidly decline, and THEN Honda WILL wake up. I am sure they have 1 or 2 things on the drawing board, but until they see the new quad sales die down, they will release NOTHING.
BTW, my 416EX will kick all of your A$$e$.

Zombie,
I believe he misunderstood what was said.
The 400EX outsells all of the Yamaha sportquad lineup combined, but not the entire lineup of ATVs including utilities.
Sales have slowed since the Z400 release, but not by much. We actually STILL sell more 400EXs than we do Z400s!!! And we DO NOT discount quads of any brand for any reason. For people to think that models have to be reduced for them to move is ridiculous. They sell regardless. 90% of ATV buyers do not read magazines or could care less about having a wee faster quad for the same price......even if it does have reverse. not amny require the need for it.
