Default 400 counterbalence oil

Where is the counter balence oil and how do I check it? What type of oil does it take? I had no idea the 400 2stroke had any oil in the crankcase.

You check it by unscrewing the dip stick on the back side of the engine. You have to pull the air box to get to it with a screwdriver. Then drain it underneith. It will take a long funnel to get the oil in it.

I've had really good luck running Mobil 1 synthetic. Like the others said, doesn't take much, so a quart lasts a long time.

my engines is performances oriented (modded) and i run amsoil 0-30 heavy duty synthetic motor oil in the counter balance,DON'T add more oil (just 3 oz) is enough,if you add too oil in the counter balance,i got some test showing the engine still pull without the trigger on (too high engine lubrication) and it is very embarassing...
when the oil turn black it is time to change it as well.

what were you trying to say about too much oil in the counterbalance? My understanding is that excess oil flows over into the crankcase...

i mean too excess oil in the counter balance (trough the dip-stick)
a too high vicosity get my engine producing enough power to pull your arm at idle-1/8 (4000-5000 rpm),i've made a mix of energy release stuff and amsoil heavy
duty motor oil,no wear at all in the engine,i run the wiseco hot rod.
