uhhh what happened to my clutch plate???????

I finally changed my clutch yesterday. All but the last two friction plates were fine. The plate that is the 1st to go in was messed up, the tabs that go into the basket to hold it still was curled towards the other plates.

Mine was same way after season of racing. On my 250r's I would go through probably 2or3 sets a year.Cannondale now has thicker plates but then you lose one disk there is a update.I think the wear is very acceptable its easy enough to check just look in the fill hole or take cover off a little creasingdoesnt hurt just have to watch it.Or get the update

Yea this was my 1st clutch after a long season. It seams that the friction stuff was in good shape no wear.it looks like the plates got alittle slack in them causing them to rock back and forward in the basket and curl the tabs.I wish I could post a pic of it so you could see it.

Hey at least we dont have to worry about clutch basket grooving out.The wear is in the plates where it belongs.I would say if they are curled more than half the distance to the next plate at least replace the bad ones.Cannondale put some thought in the clutch design going with the thin plates and steel basket I think they have the best clutch in the business even without hydraulic lever which I dont think I could ever give up.

Yea I would much rather replace a couple plates than a basket.I had ordered all new friction plates so I replaced all of them.I am going to keep all but two of the old ones for spares they look fine.

Mxmike read the parts bulletin on the cannondale websitePB02-008 clutch friction plates depending on when you ordered your new clutch this may affect you.

Just be careful of the wear on the two inner plates. That is what happened to mine, but I didn't catch mine in time and they slapped around enough that they finally broke. This caused the inner hub to get damaged and I had to remove the motor to get the pieces out. I know that I won't be going a whole race season before changing it again. In fact, I am checking them a LOT more often now.
