Default Tranny belts were full of water.

Recently i took my 03 scrambler 500 to pa to ride. I let a friend ride it and he flew through a mud puddle and got the belt wet. I took off the plug and drained the casing and it worked fine after that. My question is do i need to take off the cover and lube up anything because of the water or is it fine the way it is. Thanks for your help

Default Tranny belts were full of water.

I flooded out my trailboss a few times, didnt take it apart right away. When I did ,the only drawback to getting the clutches wet is rust, the weights and pins holding the weights were all rusted and the secondary clutch was frooze on. Had to use a puller to remove it. But the clutches were still working fine. There realy isnt any grease fittings or anything.

Water itself isn't so bad, but grit in the water is. If you think the water that got in the belt was muddy at all, it would be a good idea to take off the belt cover, and wash everything out. Just a garden hose is good enough, run water everywhere until it runs CLEAN, then rotate the pulleys a little, and do it again. When you are satisfied it is clean, start the engine, and rev it up a couple times in neutral with the cover off, to dry everything out. Rust is what you are trying to avoid here.
When you get dirty water in the belt housing, even if it is just a 'little' dirty, the grit seems to stick to the clutch buttons, wearing them out MUCH more quickly than if they were clean. I kept mine clean, and have gotten over 5000 miles out of my rear buttons, and currently have 7300 on the front. I have seen guys that got mud in the belt housing, and never washed it out replace buttons in a couple hundred miles.
