If you take the wheels off (on 2002's and newer) you will see that the axle ends of the cv rub on the wheels, solution add some grease where it makes contact and no more noise.
make sure the cv hub nut is torque at 75 lbs. this can also cause clanking

i have a clanking sound on my 03 500. it is the little "keeper" on the end of the foot brake cable. it looks like there is no way it can fall off but it rattles and i can't seem to bend so it stops. has anyone taken there whole foot brake assembly off or made it effective?

Also check the tightness of the rear diff in the frame. Mine clanks sometimes and it is the rear diff moving in the frame. Just a thought.
