never pay msrp unless the bike is a new model then you dont really have a choice. and yes the set up fee or frieight and prep fee is made up . yes the dealer does remove the quad from the crate put a few plastic pieces on and raise the handle bars and air up the tires but the manufacture pays the dealer back for this . on average its about 38-50$. i know a little about this i used to be a sales manager at a kawi/honda shop.

As a mulitiline dealership I can tell you that no manufacturer pays the dealer to set up any machines. We dont charge setup fees but it does cost us ($14labor, $8000 forklift, etc... There are also freight charges to us that are not included in MSRP. The average profit margin on an atv is $400-500 if the unit is sold at MSRP. When you consider the overhead costs involved in being a licenced dealer that doenst leave a dealer much net profit. A dealer who is able to make a living and not fight for a decent profit margin will be more likely to help you out and be a "good dealer" than one who only made $50 on your machine.

The dealers are always trying to get a few more bucks out of you. I happen to see the price list for AC and they have different levels of markup. I don't pay the setup when I buy a new one because it does not take them very long to get one ready.
