low end power increase '03 400 auto
#1
We bought two '03 400 Auto ACT this past summer to use mainly for trail riding, and for the most part have been happy with our machines. I'm looking for a way to increase low to mid range power with out sacrificing reliability issues on my machine. Since I've had to use my plow a few times, my machine seems pretty cold blooded and takes quite a bit to warm it up so it will idle. It's been down to -20 so far. I've turned up the idle, which helped. Are there any after market exhaust systems or air box kits available? Would changing springs in the clutchs help? My local Cat Dealers are of no help at all when it comes to any after market goodies for the Cat ATV's. Any help would be great!

Watch out turning idle up to high. It will cause hard starting in cold weather, it is like opening the throttle while choke is on and unit does not get air flow where needed to allow choke to work.

If you turn the idle up to high it will also start to engage the clutch making it hard to get in and out of gear if you have an auto and you are trying to go forward and reverse as in plowing.

Hey bruce 63,
Sorry it took so long to get back to you.
Would you tell me more about what the quadworks power kit is and what type of improvments I can expect? I do watch turning up the idle, I only turn the idle up for the first 5-10 minutes when warming my machine up before I ride it. My machine won't idle at all with the choke on when it's below 20 degrees and my local dealer told me about turning up the idle just a touch to keep it running till the machine is warmed up. Thanks for your input!
