250 stumbles
#1
New here with a question about my 2001 250 2X4 Cat. Under heavy load when the throttle is crank to full to fast the motor stumble. Back off and slowly twist in to full and no stumble. Is this normal or what kind of problem do I have? Other than that I like rig very much.

Can't be over reved as will pull another thousand RPM if I apply the throttle slowly instead of popping in wide open. I tried shifting gears and it does it in the next one up to. It only does this on steep inclines, I live on one very steep hill and can dupicate the problem again and again. On the flat it never does it. I'm not that knowledgable about diaphram carbs, had 4 on an outboard race motor years ago but never had a problem with them so learned nothing. It acts like it's going lean, but like I said I'm not that sharp on this style carb. Oh yeah, does it from sea level to over 3500 feet. So far I just soft peddle the throttle and have enjoyed the machine, but having been a mechanic for 25 years I like things to work properly.

your carb might be a little dirty, especially the slides, if they're gummed up you'll get crappy throtle response, clean it, ad a inline fuel filter, and change the air filter.
this should fix it, try the plug too

Float level? Dirt in float bowl?
Sounds like its leaning out, try pulling the choke on 1/4 to 1/2., and see if that helps.I believe the motor has an enrichener, instead of a choke, so youll still recieve full air, thru the carb. Then youll know if its going lean or rich.
