Default valve adjustment

Am getting ready to adjust the valves on my 2001 500 man and I have a question about finding top dead center. The inspection hole for the timing mark seems to be underneath the exhaust pipe so that you cannot get the plug out, let alone see in to find the mark. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so how do you find tdc, I do not want to have to remove the pipe to access the mark. Thanks for any help.

Default valve adjustment

I don't worry about TDC, turn engine over till intake valves are fully open and adjust exhaust valves, then turn over till ex are fully open and adjust in. When one set is fully open you know the other is closed and can be adjusted.
