Where did you purchase your black spring? I just purchased my 650 about a month ago and I am not satified with the engine braking. I have been told that the black spring will help with that.

I put in the black spring (and tightened the belt, since it was majorly loose).

The combination has been amazing! Engine braking before was non-existant in high. Now, braking in high is the same as low was before, and low is, wow! It reminds me of a sled!

When you changed the spring did you have to do anything else to the clutch (change pin weight or something)? I am not all that familiar with this issue that is why I am asking.

i called epi and i talked to a tech and he said he has installed hundreds of them and he all ways
leaves all the shims or shim in just check the belt deflection (to do that lay a straight edge over
both pullys and give 13 pounds of down force on belt and it should only move 1 inch to 7/8 of an inch
any tighter and it will cause too muth wear i left my .12 inch shim in and it was perfect as for epi
they are bases out of bakster mn and and i think there web site is www.erlandsonperformace.com
go to kawi 650 the a/c will only give you the same spring you already have
i really havant had a chance to really test it out but its only been -5 and -30 windchill a little cold for me
but guy in new richmound e-mail i got a heated shop i have lots of atvs here bring yours by and
we'll put that spring in its $25.00 and it takes 2 days to get
the reason y i replaced mine was my belt light came on at 2 miles on my machine and i did a little
research on the sobject it went into limp mode that wound have sucked if i was not in my back yard
maybe i shoudnt have raced my bros p700 i did get him out of the hole and that was it i guess thats
what you get when you only have 2 miles on!

You just need to pull shims if the belt is loose (in my case, I needed to pull out the thin shim). I bought the spring from Dalton Industries (in Nova Scotia I believe). I think it was $40 CND to my door (maybe $60). EPI and Dalton make a similar product for a similar price. UPS kills us when we ship stuff from the US to Canada, so that's why I did Dalton instead.

AC650:
You don't need to tough the weights or anything. That's in the primary clutch, and the black spring goes in the secondary clutch.

Check the Kawasaki forum. There was a thread that had pictures of how to change the spring out.
