Arctic Cat 650 kicking out of gear
Listen guys. I have a new 04 Arctic Cat 650 with 10 hours on it, and I have already had to take it to the shop twice for it kicking out of gear. What will happen is while riding the transmission will simply put itself into neutral. The gear shifter will not move. One minute you are in drive just trucking along, and the next you will be in neutral and can rev the motor up. Once it goes into neutral and you start slowing down, and you can sometimes hear a slight grinding sound and once you get slow enough then it will put itself back into gear. You will not have to move the shifter for any of this to happen. Then you can proceed with driving until it happens again. Normally it will happen within every couple hundred feet.
The first time I took it to my dealership they said they needed to adjust the linkage and that would solve the problem, but once I got it home and rode it for less than three miles it started doing the same thing. I repeat. I am not moving the shifter from drive. The shifter is not being moved, and it is fully in gear. This can and does happen to me at any speed-slow or fast, it doesn't matter. Have any of you experience this problem? Please advise.

I know the 650 has the Kawi engine and transmission in it and is not exactly the same as a Polaris but I have a buddy who had his 500 sportsman do the same thing for awhile. I seem to recall that it had someting to do with a weak spring in the transmisson which was replaced and fixed that problem.
I would take it back to the dealer and ask them to ride it and fix the problem. I would not leave the dealership until the machine had been ridden for a grerat distance by the mechanic and not had the problem occur again. I know its a pain but at least, depending on how they treat you, you will learn if your dealer is going to help you or not. If not I would go some place else.
