Default 1999 300 AC

Hello everyone my first post.
I have had a 1989 300 Honda and a 1990 350 Honda.
Now I have nothing. The guys at work want me to get a bike.
I have found a 1999 300 Arctic Cat with 2500 warn winch only 734 miles on the bike not one scratch for $3000 CND.
I have test road it and it is a lot different than my hondas.
I only trail ride and go through some mud if need be I weigh 160
Now to my question will I be happy with this 300 ac any pros or cons I should know about.

Thanks everyone.

Default HELP 1999 300 AC

Not sure what to tell you. The price seems OK given good shape and a guess as to what it converts to in US $$$. I am guessing 2wd?? You did not mention.

To be honest it all comes down to you. You only have older Honda's to which to compare the ride. You did not mention how the AC was differnt. Good different or bad different or just different. One way or another I would guess there is a world of diff. in quad technology between over that 10 years. That should be for the better.

I say if you like it buy it. I will mention that I fall in the 160lb range as well. I rode a 300 and a 400 AC when I was making my final decision. I liked the 400 for the power. The particular 300 I was looking at was selectable 2/4 WD with ind. rear suspension. The 400 was ACT (straight axle on a 4 link) 4wd all of the time. I liked the ride of both but in the end went with the more power, I just liked it a little better for its get up and go over the 300.

Again it is what you like. For what you describe as your riding habbits I think you cann't go wrong with what you describe.

Take care,

brent

Default HELP 1999 300 AC

I have a 1999 CAT 300 4by4.It has been an excellent machine.Robust chassis, great ride, supising power from that 280cc. engine, triple range transmission, independent suspension. The 1999 model front end can be modified by a simple relocation of the bellcrank to give you a LOCKING FRONT DIFFERENTIAL.
The down side is I had to replace the ball joints(AC had a problem w/ them in that model year)
ground clearance could be better and takes a bit to get used to the rocker shifter.Once you get used to it you wont want the honda style shifter ever again

I have alot of Honda equipt and I think it is excellent stuff. The 300 Honda is not same caliber machine as the AC 300 though. The Cat is much better in every catergory as far as I am concerned. The cat rides better , has similar ground clearance, stronger engine ,more fuel capacity, oil cooler, better rubber, full size much heavier duty chassis/suspension.much better traction, better brakes. The 300 honda is a great 3/4 size machine more suited for kids and women.

Default HELP 1999 300 AC

Thanks tta583 and mrmom103ny for your help.
The bike it turns out is a 98 and it is 4wd. I guess the differences was it did not seem as quick as my hondas, but i think it was in the
shifter, trying to get use to it scubbed my speed off.
Another diff was when you look at the bike from the side you see a empty space where an engine usually is.
Since the engine is in the back i thought it might front end light for hills.
I do like the size of the bikes frame and as you said mrmom103ny the tires are better.

Tks again guys for your time, sry it took a few days to reply but i work straight graveyard 12 hour shift 5pm to 5am Fri.Sat.Sun.
The bike is still for sale I would like bigger like a 400. but not much pickings in my town.

Default HELP 1999 300 AC

Actually the 250/300 4x4's weigh the same on each of the 4 wheels and this makes for better handling at higher speeds. It also has much lighter steering for those all day rides. I have a friend with a 2002 500 4x4 and he rode my 300 one day and was amazed at how much better it steered after a long ride. My wife is only 105Lb and she like this feature very much. If you put a short piece of 1 in. square tubing on the heel part of the shifter it will shift much easier.

Default HELP 1999 300 AC

I run a 98 300 2x4 and probably weigh in at 285,have no problem where I ride, mostly dirt woods road. Its good in the mud. Low range 3rd is where I ride 85% of the time. I put a homemade hand shifter on it, made all the difference in the world.
