Keeping my 400 running in water
#1
yall were pretty good onthis site on helping me get my jetting correct on my carb so now I have another good question. I recently had a little wreck on a hill, and now 120 stiches in my face later I cannot keep my scooter running in water. keep in mind before this wreck I could sit in water over the rear rack and it would just idle, now I hit a whole and about where the plastic starts on the side of the scooter it just starts to cut out. Any help would be great. Also has anyone added another break lever on a cat so that you could use just the front or just as this is what caused my wreck and liked to flatten my head out, and I know, I know, wear a helmet. Thats what the doctor said when he tapped on me skull with an instrument. Thanks again for any help

Just had mine in the shop for the same thing. They found the intake manifold was cracked. It would suck water in and make it miss. Havn't got is out to see if that fixed it. You might check your.

you know I just ordered a bunch of parts from them, I did not even think of looking there. I was real happy with everything I got and the prices are great, shipping was a bit of a let down being I paid for second day air and it took like a week, but hey what are you going to do, at least the prices were good. Thanks for the input, any ideas on how to tell if this is the problem or not, a crack on the manifold could be hard to see. Thanks

This is a better place for parts for the US guys as the prices are in US dollars instead of Canadian dollars. Same catalog too.

southernmud,
I would take a can of starting fluid and spray it around the intake system on your machine while its running and if it starts to rev higher while your spraying at an area then I would look for a leak. I also ran into the same problem on my 300 (minus the crash ) and mine was electrical- Check out all your electrical components for cracks, bare wires, or loose connections escpecially around the damaged areas. Also take apart every connection that gets submerged in water, clean it out with some spray cleaner and then apply dielectric grease to the connections. Hope this helps....
