my new 650 has me wondering ?
at about 250kms after 1/2 day of riding the clutch would chirp and shutter on engagement
took it to dealer they said deflection was within spec installed epi kit at this time .
went out riding again 1/2 way through the day same thing .
took it back again this time mech said it was a little loose so he removed a shim.
next trip out same thing is happening again SO NOW I AM AT A LOSS WHAT DO I DO NOW GUYS?

i think yours does the same thing as mine it does it when you take off really slow it is like an electronic engine braking system thing or something i figure i got two years worth of warranty on it so i don't worry bout it till it breaks then i bring it in and say FIX IT!!!!! I dunno i think it is some kind of electronic thing if you listen really closely

dealer is ralph's artic cat
but i talked to dalton and they said that the springs from the epi clutch kit are comparable to theirs and he would not sell me any of his springs as it would not make a difference, but he also said that epi used clutch weights from the snowmobile and they are not the best fit. he said to use the stock weights as kawasaki had the best setup and that he had also done extensive testing on the cat and said that was the best way to go, he said if that did not fix my problem he would send me any springs that i thought i might need for free, talk about confidence, i have to pick up my manual yet from the dealer and then i will try to change the weights myself.

HEY droil5 I ,ve been having the same problem but what I,ve found out is you have to get your dealer or yourself to put your belt at the tightest position it may sqweek when idling but that because it,s very tight this should make a difference.I just burned out my first belt and try to get the dealer to get ac to pay for it because clutch was never set up right you ,d think they would,ve learned from the kawi 650 I understand they had the same problem .anyways i,m gonna fight this issue about the belt 600 km and it,s gone there telling me that it,s the bigger tires that has burned it out but thats bull because it would smoke when pulling small utility trailer through the field which shouldn,t happen.THATS MY TWO CENTS

right pockets i been with ralphs too
i think manmudcat is right ive heard this to and ive told the mechanic to snug it right up that i can live with a small squeel at idle if it solves the slipping 1st time he didnt do any adjustment and second time he only removed one shim he keep saying he doesnt want it too tight
hey tell me about your fan switch and temp gauge mods
sounds interesting?

the cat has a tendency to blow fuses when the fan is running and you hit water too fast or it gets too high
i have not experienced this yet, but i put a switch in so i can turn the fan off if the water gets deep thereby saving the fuse and i put in a temp gauge to remind to turn the fan back on or if the fan fails the temp gauge will tell me that.
everyone seems to have a diff opinion about this belt problem and i am on the right track as it slips way less than it did
the stocks weigths have a better ramp design than epi gives you so says dalton and i have ordered the red sec spring as top end does not mean much too me as the trails i ride are still too fast at 30 mph
its hard to get the dealer too tighten the belt as they like to work by the book and i can see their logic if something goes wrong, we did it by the book.
