Service manual does say 10hrs or 200miles always using less than half throttle (yeah right). It also says its essential to place some stress on the engine components but not to overload them. You also need to burnish your brakes to improve stopping (we won't mention the foot brake).

I went with 10 hours of use and had almost 300 miles on the machine. I put the sythetic oil in at that time and have had zero problems after 1400miles. I use the AC synthetic oil change kits which cost about $30. But you can go 500 or more miles between oild changes. Also do not be surprised if after about 400miles you hear a clunking sound coming from the front end while going over some bumps.

It is usually the rubber shock bushing that are worn out. Cost about $2.00 per shock to replace. They appear to be made of a soft rubber. Unless they have fixed that problem in 05.

Oh, does the hat say "I bought this 4-wheeler for my wife and all I got was this stupid hat"

Enjoy your BEAST

Sorry, but this is what I want out of them!!
1. FOR THEM TO LAST.
2. Ride well on pack surfaces and/or paved roads.
3. And what I really want them for, to be the best in the mud.

Thanks for your time,
eazy

You put 600 down and financed 6742 that brings the total price of it to $7342

For $200 more you could have gotten a Brute Force... did you really want a manual shift that bad?

For what its worth, I think you got a great machine. I too like the manual shift, but you cant get some of the higher end 4X4s in manual.

Good to hear you got a hat though.
I'd have gone with the 500. The Brute Force is too new, and I am curious about those puny little axle shafts handling all that power. The 500 AC is a mature deign with the bugs worked out. The other reason I'd go with the AC is ground clearance. I like rock crawling and extreme terrain, and every inch counts. Finally, the AC feels like it has a wider stance. The BF feels fine, but feels like it has a narrower track.

I think he made a good choice and will have years of enjoyment with it. Not to mention a 6.5 gallon tank that will take him way out into the boonies and back.

Hey, congrats on the new machine eazy. You'll love it!

Oh, and by the way, we DID get hats when we bought our pair of 400's. We were standing around waiting for the paperwork to be done, admiring this rack full of hats (with "Ship's Cycles, Elko, NV" embroidered on the rear strap) and picked out two Arctic Cat ATV caps and said, "We KNOW we get free hats with the ATV's, right?" Ole' Doug looked up at us and said, "All right, yeah, pick out two caps and they're yours". Cool...

I have found that the Mud Lites do well for me on packed surfaces and in the Mud, maybe not the best in the mud, but a heck of alot better than stock tires, i ride with a guy that has a 600 polaris and i am always going through deeper mud, going farther through the mud and pulling him out more times than he pulls me out.
