Default TRV TBX Heavy Duty Springs

If anyone is looking for more carrying capacity for their TRV I found through a part number cross reference that the 500i and and the TRV use the same springs. Thats in itself is not the important part - the important part is that Highlifter sells heavy duty spring kits for the 500i. I installed all four springs on the TRV tonight using the spring compressor tool that comes with the front/rear kit and it took about 4 hours start to finish. That compressor tool is slick. It becomes obvous that the new springs are substancially stronger when your hanging onto the arm of the spring compression tool. According to Highlifter the springs add about 100lbs additional capacity per set.

Results - the TRV sits higher - much higher. Parked next to the new stock TRV it looks to have a lift kit. With the wife and all the extra rear MRP gear, trailer hitch, etc - the shocks are just about 1/2 inch compressed. This is giving me about 4 inches additional ground clearance over stock springs when fully (over) loaded.

Perfect.

note edited to read 500i rather then TBX

Do you think those springs would be compatible with the AC 650? I do alot of hauling and pulling with mine.

I would suggest talking to the AC dealer and discovering if they use the same spring part number on the TRV and the 650. I looked on Highlifter.com and they don't list the springs for a 650. But they didnt list the springs for the TRV either.

Good luck

Thanx, I am going to my AC dealer tomorrow anyway. I will have to ask him that. After I find out, I will post it to help out anyone else.

WhoDatInDaMud,

How much did those highlifter shocks set you back? Have you had a chance to try them out on a back country trip yet to see if they were worth the money?

My wife and I have hauled and towed all sorts of things with the TRV. Just wondering if you noticed a big difference in towing. More ground clearence is always a good thing too. Including all the materials for a 20X20 cabin 25 miles one way to the cabin site. Would be really nice if they helped the handling while loaded.

Also I have been looking for the drawings for the MRP rack you made for your TRV and can't seem to find the pictures of them anymore. If you still have them can you PM me with the info. I plan on making some this winter.

Thanks
SJ

First - Those springs make all the difference in the world. Now it rides flat with no more rolling out on the turns and it keeps the trailer hitch up off the ground. Serious improvements. I have about 50 pounds of MRP stuff on the rear racks. Add that to 430 pounds of riders ( I wont say who weights what..lol) and we just barely start to compress the shocks from fully extended. I had nearly 700 pounds (thanks to one really big friend + me and MRP stuff) and we still had over 5 inches between the rear wheel fender lip and the tire.
I'm pretty sure anyone carrying much of a load on a TRV or TBX will appreciate the HD springs.

In regards to the rear MRP rackage - I'll come up with some measurements and drawing, I can post it somewhere on the web or if I have your email I can just PDF it too you.

EDIT - I forgot to mention that all 4 springs with the compression tool was a buck forty something.

WhoDatInTheMud,

I think I have the rear MRP rack figured out but just have a few questions. Such as how did you get it around the seat? Is is U-shaped? Or in 3 separate pieces? Or do you remove the seat to install?

Also how do you attach it? I was thinking of bolting it on by drilling through the round tubing and the rar MRP rack. I also thought I could bolt it on with u-bolts or weld it permanently in place? Not sure which would work best?

Did you paint or pwder coat or? for a finish on your rack and how hoes it hold up?

Since you have already done this I am hoping you can shed a little light on these questions. It would be a great help.

Click on the camera on the left side of any of my posts under my name. In those pictures you will see "MRP half Rack" Click on that picture to see it in a larger format.
I attached it by welding it directly onto the existing tubes. The rack is rust-o-leum primered and painted. The paint has held up very well.

So far this has worked out really really well. I have banged some of the attachements off of trees or posts and the rack hasn't come loose or bent - yet. And I've hit it pretty hard. I've also loaded a good 100 pounds of wood (50 each side) into the baskets and its been fine.
