shifting problem - clunking
#1
Sometimes I have clunk when shifting between first and second gear. Its a 04 Artic Cat 400 Manual with 200 Miles on it. It seems like its I rev and when tring to shift to second it stuck in neutral for a second or two before it shifts in to second with a clunk(bang) type noise. This only occures once in a blue moon. This happened when trying to go through mud one time. I was making it through fine in first gear and then I went to shift to second and it seemed like it went to neautral then all a sudden bang it went into second with a clunk and jerk then it seems to work fine. Like I said this doesn't really happen much. I've actually only noticed it 5 times in 200 miles. So I want to know what you guys think this problem could be. I have been reading this forum for awhile and always trust what you guys comes up with. I thought it maybe the wet clutch oil. I use regular ac oill. Do you think it needs serviceing or the clutch adjusted. Or is this something more simple? Thanks for your time in advance.

If you ride the shift lever with your heel you will be in a neutral until you get off the lever. Every once in awhile I do the same thing on my '05 400 manual when I don't pay attention to what I'm doing. This usually happens when several things are going on and I have to divide my attention between them, you know when it all turns to $h!t.

Ya I thought of that but that doesn't seem to be the problem cuz I've been riding awhile and watch out for doing what you described. Any other suggestions?
Thanks for the input Bear4570. I see you on here all the time and trust what you have to say.
