Default shifting is difficult at times

Hey again everyone,

On my 05' 400i Auto, I find that shifting from hi to low, or hi to neutral, and reverse is really difficult sometimes. To the point that I have to smack the shift lever several times to get it to go into the new position. This cant be good for the linkage, or anything else...is there anything else I can do?

Might it have something to do with the fact that the dealer set the idle pretty high? He said the idle should be higher than normal during the break in period. The machine jumps a bit when it is put into forward or reverse. Is this to high? What should correct idle speed be, and how can I measure it?

Thanks

High idle will cause hard shifting and is not necessary to keep the motor running if the adjusted the carb right.

Look in your owners manual on page 138 and it will tell you where the idle speed adjuster is and which way to turn it. It is a **** so you won't need a screwdriver even.

Sometimes if you're on an incline and the tranny is in a bind you'll have to add a little force to get it to move. Not sure when when this is happening to you but this is something to consider. Does this happen when you're on perfectly flat ground as well?
