Default 2005 AC 400 4x4 VP

First off, great forums!!! I have some questions about the 400 4x4 VP. In 04 they came with a on/off front diff, is this available on the 2005's? It is to my understanding that the VP is a little more rugged and will handle the same as the FIS with little ride sacrafice, is this true? The VP has a solid rear which means less moving parts re: less maintanence? Any help with the VP would be great, not too much info around.

Thanks guys and gals.

OK, its all not true, the ride isn't an issue but 4x4 is. Does the VP have on/off 4x4 in 05?

According to the 2005 spec sheet in the catalog the VP is full time 4X4. The AC website says the same thing.

I'd never even heard of the "VP" so I went to the AC website to see what I'm missing. On the "Core" page it does indicate that it has "Push Button 4x4". And everything else seems to be the standard offering.

The website is wrong then, the "VP" version is the old ACT rear end, semi independant. It's just as good as IRS in every way, including ride. The only thing you give up is a little ground clearance. It's also more efficient at putting the power to the ground. It's not full time 4X4.

Well, depending on what you say is wrong on the website, what the website did say was that it wasn't full time 4x4 and that it was push-button controlled. And that was all I was referring to.

And just what is "VP"? They were a bit shy on explanations.

If it has less ground clearance it can't be as good. The spec sheet says 4WD and the feature page claims selectable. The catalog says 4WD. Both Browns Leasure World and Alpha Sports parts catalogs don't even show the VP model, only the IRS.

Just got off the phone with my local dealer, my quick release for the speedrack is nationally back ordered, but while I was on the phone I asked about the VP. ACT suspension, FULL TIME 4 Wheel Drive and NO digital insturments. The rest is the same as the IRS 400.

Here is the real deal. I will quarantee to be 100% accurate. The 400 VP IS full time 4WD,(no you cannot add2WD/4WD)does not have MRP speedrack system, has 04 style speedo (NOT digital),manuel does NOT have speedo, NO front dff lock, has Kenda radials instead of Carlisles,
NO receiver hitch. Funny to think about all the stuff it does not have, but still better equipped then Rancher or Bruin. You should be able to buy an 04 400 IFS for about the same $. 04 did not have digital speedo or front diff lock, both qualify for 2 year warranty being affered by A.C.
Hope this was helpful.
