Default wheel bearings ??

I had some time tonight to play with my ATV jack in my newly expanded shed ,
I wanted to see if I'd have enough room to swing my quad a round ,a round the same time I remembered an old post here about wheel bearing going bad early .
I only have 357 miles on it ,to a surprise to me the left rear has some play and so does the right front ,what's up with that ???????,it still smells new ,I'm not even fully broken in yet !!.
I went on line to price out the parts, seals, clips, bearings, with shipping $97.93 .Is this a normal thing new bearings every 357 miles ??
will the new bearings last longer ?

Default wheel bearings ??

They should last longer.

My 2003 400 has about 1500miles and is on original wheel bearings. I noticed a little play in a front tire about 300 miles ago but it is small and it has not gotten any worse. I would just watch it closely and put a few more miles on it.

The price you posted sounds low. I have seen other posts here where they list the price higher. You should need 2-seals, 1-clip, and 1-bearing per axle knuckle. Change all 4 bearings at ounce or at least do both front or both rear bearings at the same time.

It is better to have the bike down for repairs and do all 4 or 2 bearings rather than doing one wheel now and another wheel in two months, etc. until all 4 are done. Less down time for the machine.

Hope this helps

We offer bearing kits that meet and exceed oem standards and they should be cheaper as well they are 19.95 a wheel with seals. I'm guessing that during production the bearings were not greased or lubed properly from the factory adn thats what caused them to wear out right away. I've seen stuff from all manufactures come off the floor with out grease or lube on alot of parts before dirtbike axel from yamaha being the worst. Call 651-982-6020 for more info.

Default wheel bearings ??

I have about 1500 miles on my 400 i and my front left is pretty loose, while my front right isnt too bad and both rear ones are just starting to get a tiny bit of play in them, I am trying to get my dealer to push them through under warranty, I think that is rediculious, my father in law just changed his on his Grizzly and he had almost 6000 km on his. And we do the same type of riding. And up here in Canada, I got the bearings priced out from the dealer for $150 per axle!!! So speedwerx, you say your prices are starting at 19.95, what are the prices (cdn) for a 2003 400i?

Add the exchange rate I don't know what it is right now. They are 19.95 for each wheel unless you have an o3 auto 400 the rears are more they are 37.75 each but the fornts are still 19.95.

If you run them in the mud they seem to really wear out quick- I replaced all 4 at 1000 mi, but what I did was got the kit from All ***** instead of cat. The bearings are sealed instead of open like the OEs and what I did to make them last even longer is pop one seal off with a small screwdriver and take some of the marine water resistant grease and really pack the bearing and then reinstall the seal. Most manufacturers try to get away with putting as little grease in them as possible. I got mine for I think like 30 or 40 a wheel- which includes the sealed bearing and the inner and outer seals. You shouldn't need a new retainer clip if your careful. The other thing to keep in mind when checking for play in the wheel bearings is that your brakes are holding the hub so your not going to see as much play as you would in the left rear (has no brake). If you are wearing pads excessively chances are you have some bad bearings. You can get the bearings direct from all *****- www.allballsracing.com

they should be the same number- the only ones that may be different are the 04 650s and most 05s because I believe they went to a beefier axle in the rear as long as were talking about the "I" models. The ACTs I would think would have a different # in the rear...
